They came second with the helicopter design
The ‘ECO-Dynamics’ team, consisting of 7 students from Izmir University of Economics (IUE) Department of Aerospace Engineering, came second in Turkey in the Helicopter Design Competition held at TEKNOFEST. Young people from IUE, who designed an attack helicopter that has high maneuverability, can land on difficult terrains easily and can carry 1.1 tons of ammunition, won a prize of 50 thousand liras in the competition among 461 teams.
The team, consisting of IUE Department of Aerospace Engineering students Pınar Akın, Eda Nur Tetik, Kutlu Akar, Melisa Gündoğdu, Mehmet Ali Tekin, Tuna Deniz and Can Oral, worked about 5 months for the Helicopter Design Competition, in which many ambitious projects across Turkey participated.
IT CAN REACH A SPEED OF 336 KILOMETRES
Using their knowledge and creativity, the young people of IUE thought about all the details in the 2 crew- attack helicopter they designed. The helicopter was designed in a light desert yellow color, taking into account its camouflage feature. Composite material and titanium coating were also used in the design of the helicopter, which can reach a speed of 336 kilometers. The helicopter, which has a range of 720 kilometers and is equipped with electrical equipment in state-of-the-art aircraft, has special water-repellent filtered glasses. The helicopter, which can stay in the air for 3 hours and 16 minutes, also draws attention with its ease of production. Having high performance and safety, the helicopter makes a difference with its ergonomic design and 2,558 kW engine power.
9 TEAMS MADE IT TO THE FINALS
Stating that they were very happy to be ranked in the competition, Pınar Akın, the captain of the ECO-Dynamics team said, “There were 461 applications to the Helicopter Design Competition this year. These projects were examined in detail by the expert team, and after a few stages were completed, 9 teams that made it to the final were determined. 9 teams that qualified for the finals came to TEKNOFEST held in Istanbul this year. We can say that even participating in TEKNOFEST was a great success in itself. All the projects that made it to the final were very ambitious and good. Nonetheless, we believed with all our teammates that we would receive an award. We ranked second place by getting the reward of our efforts. It was a great pleasure and an unforgettable experience for us. We successfully represented our university. It has been a very useful and motivating competition process for our future studies. The ‘ECO-Dynamics’ team was founded last year by Sinem Bircan and Ahmet Yiğit Özel. Although they were not included in the team this year, they supportes us a lot. We would like to thank the founders of our team and everyone who supported us.”
THEY BELIEVED AND WORKED HARD
Prof. Dr. Diaa Gadelmavla, Head of IUE Department of Aerospace Engineering, said, “Our students believed, worked and succeeded. As a department, we provide both laboratory support and financial support to all groups participating in TEKNOFEST competitions. From now on, we will continue to stand by our students with all academics and opportunities. Believing is half the battle. We trust our TEKNOFEST groups. I congratulate all students who participated in the competition for their hard work and wish them continued success.”
